So many times I wish I could understand
That I could put myself in your place
If we could just switch places for a day
If I could be a boy and see how you think and feel
Understand your needs and thoughts
And what you believe to be real
To understand your anger, your fears and how to fix it
How to make things better and know what to do
I wish you could take my place and be a girl
To understand how it hurts
To see from my point of view
Understand my thoughts and needs
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see from the other’s eyes?
To know what to do when things go wrong
To see how we make each-other feel…
But we can’t switch places
I can’t be you and you can’t be me
I’m just a girl
And you’re just a boy
We don’t see the same way
We don’t think the same way
We don’t have the same needs
And it’s hard to figure out how to fix it
Or to at least try and make it better
You don’t know how it hurts to me
And I don’t know how it hurts to you
We just have to try
And sometimes trying doesn’t work
I end up hurt, you end up angry
But I still wish I could….
Be you for just one day
To be able to understand you more
Wouldn’t that be nice….
